Day 11 - A Walk in the Clouds

After a relatively low key morning, we boarded our coach for the trip to Mount Vesuvius and our trek up the mountain.

We really lucked out with the weather this morning - it wasn't too hot and it wasn't too cold - and the sky was clear.  I think many of the students were surprised at how difficult the trek actually was!  The trail was very steep and was covered with gravel.  A lot of the students commented on how it felt like it was like walking uphill on a beach.  Some of the students opted for the additional guided tour around the upper rim of the volcano - while the rest stayed on the lower rim and took in the view.

On the way down, the students were also quite surprised at how hard it was to come down - given that it was all down hill.  Jake - our super-trooper - was voted the King of the Mountain for completing both the regular trek, as well as the upper rim trek, but we were so proud of all our students for completing it!  What an accomplishment to say you have trekked Mount Vesuvius!!

After lunch we made our way to lunch were we met with some local students for pizza and fun.  Our students had a fabulous time making new friends, learning new dances, exchanging social media info and just talking.  Our new Italian friends even gave us a send off by running after our bus when we were leaving!!  I guess we really left an impression on them.

We have made it to Rome and the kiddos are all tucked safely in bed awaiting our adventure tomorrow - the Vatican and a City Walk/Scavenger Hunt!!

Buena Notte for now!!  Stay tuned tomorrow for more pics from today - hard to download at the moment.
